Estimations are given on receiving a copy of the projects requesting services for transcription.
Literary transcription
Math and Science transcription
History and Geographic transcription
Estimation is based on the braille to print page ratio and graphics are based on size, texture, and braille on the page.
Customer’s Journey
- Bids of service come in from a returning Vendor Estimation is presented.
- Vendor accepts estimation. Due dates are decided.
- Bids are given to the transcribers for cost and due dates.
- Transcriber assigned.
- Transcriber receives electronic files through email.
- Transcriber is responsible for:
- Formatting
- Transcribing
- Proofreading
- Final Transcription
- Final Electric files sent
- Vendor receives electric files on or before due date. Invoice presented.
- Paid received at Net 30 to 45.
- Contractor receives payment.

Due Dates:
General Specs
- UEB
- Follow BF2016 for formatting.
- Name files -v0l etc.
- 160 double-sided pages per volume (80 sheets of paper). You can go over a bit but try not to.
- Use textbook page numbering where every braille page has a braille page number.
- Do not divide a section between volumes but you may divide chapters.
- Send work as completed.
- For novels follow literary UEB guidelines as per BANA. Continue page numbers as in print across volumes.
File Submission
- File format is provided. Example: BRF; Graphic; Ink files in the Main folder.
- For every file submission, provide a running status of the volume submission info (print pages, total braille pages, total tactile pages, total blank pages.
- If submitting volumes 1-3 of a 20-volume project, then submit a status that shows volumes 1-3. When submitting volumes 12-14, the status should show volumes 1-14.
- Embossing is with a brf or b2k file and Corel Draw or Word Graphics from your files or master.
- Clients use a Tiger Embosser to emboss the graphics.

Ink Pages
- Generate Ink pages.
- 8.Sx11 margins in portrait orientation
- Use Verdana 20 pt font for the title page
- Use Verdana 18 pt font for SS and TN pages; o Use 18 pt for the 55 braille symbols
- List tn’s used and their print page numbers
Tactiles
- Follow the Guideline and Standard for Tactile Graphics.
- Insert a drawing space on all tactiles. Remember: You will be counting blank pages.
- Insert at least 1/8 inch white space around crossing elements.
- Font: Braille 24 or Braille 29
- Lines: 100% black unless otherwise noted.
- 1.0 pt for lead lines
- 1.0 grid lines
- Use 50% black
- 1.5 pt for measurement lines
- 2.0 pt for axis lines
- 3.0 pt for main lines, geometric figures
- 4.0 pt for secondary lines
- 5.0 pt for tertiary lines or dashed Textures (don’t use more than 3)
- 50% Black as first
- 25% black as second
- Pick a pattern as third
Payment
- Submit an invoice upon submission of files.
- Payment is Net 45 upon received invoices. Payment is normally Net 30 from Client.
